Temple Emmanuel Community Block Party
Temple Emmanuel Set City on Fire.
Temple Emmanuel in Youngstown Ohio, had a vision to fire the city up for Jesus. The method was through a parade and block party. The pathfinder’s led the parade by marching from the church to the Princeton Elementary School. The event was organized by long time community activist and member of Temple Emmanuel, Charles Hudson. Community activist, community artist & city leadership were in attendance.
Wendy Webb, superintendent of Schools and Anthony Catell, school board president thanked the church for this event to bring the community together. They both commented on looking forward to the renewed community interest for the upcoming school year.
The community could easily identify the sponsors of the event for all members were dressed in Red & White. The members worked in the various booths: Health & Fitness, Food, in which vegetarian hotdogs were introduced and well received. There was a prayer garden where individuals could go and have a member pray with and for them. The children had games based on biblical themes; Little David meeting the challenge by the Giant Goliath, and a small pool where they fished for men.
There were several special acts that engaged and entertained the crowd of over 350 in attendance. Thomas Scott mimed to the Marvin Sapp's song never would have made it, Peppi McGhee fired the crowd up with a down home song that had everyone on their feet. Faith & Temple Emmanuel Choirs sang to the glory of God with melodious melodies and tight harmony. Janerall Brown, from the community presented a poetic recitation, “This is the struggle I see" and High Noon, a local Christian Rap duo, presented the gospel in a rhythmic, poetic style.
"The event has sparked a fire that will blaze through Youngstown", says Russell Fields, pastor of Temple Emmanuel.
